I always talk about fashion being about self-expression. And I fully believe that when you dress to suit your mood it makes such a difference to your outlook.
I’m not talking about theme dressing, although I am 100% on board with that too! Dressing to suit your mood can be liberating, especially if you are stressed or worrying about what trends you should be buying into or what your peers are wearing.
Don’t dress for other people. Dress for you.
You might be sitting thinking that you can only wear one colour, or that you couldn’t possibly wear those trousers that you love but just can’t bring yourself to wear out the house. And I want to know why?
Who will judge you?
Let me share a little secret with you, it doesn’t matter what other people think! If they judge you thats on them. Fashion should be fun. You can make a statement in all black or you can look like a rainbow threw up on you, as long as you are dressing for you and no one else. I’ve always been pretty confident in my style choices, even when they were bad ones. And trust me, there have been some terrible ones. But what does it matter? No one is perfect when it comes to fashion and dressing for your mood, in my opinion, makes it easier to play around with the contents of your wardrobe.
Experiment with shape, colour, texture, your style is your oyster and you can make it whatever you want. If you want to be minimalist one day and wear every accessory you own the next then go for it. The only person stopping you is yourself. Take this outfit, for example, the sun was shining so I wanted to be as colourful as possible. I looooooove this cardigan, and pairing it with a pastel pleated skirt made me feel like I was getting all my style inspo from Grease, so instead of restyling my outfit, I leaned in. Adding oversized glasses and a neckscarf finished the look off, and massively brightened my mood!
So do you dress to suit your mood? Or will you be experimenting with more fashion this year? Let me know if you are trying anything new! Trust me when I say dressing to suit your mood will brighten up your day.
