Rekindling my love of Vintage shopping

A vintage shopping trip can be a little like falling down the rabbit hole, some things are way too big, and some are way to small you can never tell by a dress size how it’s going to fit or even look until you try it on! That is the first major point to remember, always try it on! Even if you only kind of like it and you can’t really be bothered you might find that not only does it fit you perfectly but it’s one of those timeless pieces that you’ll wear again and again.

The biggest downfall to Vintage shopping is the influx of modern clothing with the labels cut off. Now don’t me wrong, I love a good charity shop rummage and I’ve found some amazing things over the years (most recently a Preen coat but I’ll save that baby for another post!), but I must say this pisses me of royally. The best way to avoid falling into the pitfall of buying last seasons Topshop is to check all labels. If something has no label or it’s obviously cut out check for a care label as this will usually tell you where it came from, if it has no brand on it check the ‘made in’ info, 99% of the time if it’s made in China it aint Vintage! If it’s got a label and your not sure then google it but lets be honest you can usually tell a vintage label a mile off.

Luckily there are a few amazing Vintage stores in Glasgow that you don’t have to trawl through to find an actual Vintage piece. I came across Beautiful Cosmos through a friend’s recommendation, based in the Southside this little gem is a must visit for any Vintage lover, no high street labels in sight! All the stock is hand picked by the owner Flore and I have to admit she has impeccable taste! My friend picked up a vintage liberty scarf and a glass leaf brooch and I bagged this little pinstripe number, for £18 may I add! I love the fit, the button up the side makes me think of a dentist’s uniform…in a good way! The shape of the shoulder’s and the tie at the waist make it really flattering, plus I love a good pleat and the skirt is the perfect shape for dancing.

The best thing about Vintage shopping? You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone else with the same dress/coat/jumper/scarf/bag as you AND it’s the most sustainable way to shop. You know I’m a fan of shopping local so why not shop at your local Vintage store?
