Well not quite, The Great Central Railway is the UK’s only double track, main line heritage railway. It’s the only place in the world where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other – just as it was when steam ruled the rails.
My team in work decided we needed a night out that was a little different, we chose a murder mystery night and it just so happened to be on a steam train! The story was set in the 1920’s with an actress being murdered on the journey before ours, the actors set the scene on the platform and then we boarded the train. Throughout the 5 course meal (yeah you heard!) the actors played scenes down the carriages where you interview them to solve the murder.
It was so much fun, the food was lovely (they offered vegetarian options) and was only £60 per person. The train was absolutely stunning. It stops at a restored platform where you can get off, we used this time to take some fun photo’s in the engine room, which was unbelievably hot! If you have a friends birthday coming up I would definitely recommend this, a fantastic alternative to just going for dinner!
As it was set in the 20’s we obviously dressed appropriately. My dress is from french connection a few years ago but you can buy a similar one from Topshop. A few other guests dressed up and the dress code was definitely black tie, but why not go all out?
