To quote Tolkien “not all those who wander are lost”
2015 was a great year for travelling, I went vintage shopping in Barcelona, got lost in Cornwall, honeymooned in Bali, partied in Paris and fell in love in Marrakech. But I still wanted to write a travel wishlist after I figured out I’d only been to 14 countries! One of my friends has visited over 30…
So I decided I need to up my travel game, the other half and I already a bit of a mammoth trip planned for America, a wedding in NYC, our joint 30th in Vegas and a road trip (through the desert I might add!) to San Fransisco but as we have both been to the US before I felt like a list was in order, so here you go, my 2016 travel wishlist!
Budapest – This city has captured my imagination for a long time now and as they say there is no time like the present! I would love to go for a bath surrounded by Art Nouveau architecture, take romantic strolls over the Danube and try all the Hungarian wine.
Croatia – Festivals are starting to rule supreme and top of my list this year is Unknown, it’s only been running for two years (2015 was a break year) but this baby is set to relaunch massively this year and I for one want to be there! I would also love to do a tour of Dubrovnic & Monntenegro, soak up some sun and all the history of these amazing cities.
Iceland – Ok I know I have been here, but we never really left Reykjavik so I’d love to go back, do the golden circle tour, stay in The Grimsborgir hotel for amazing food and Icelandic hospitality and chase the northern lights, as last time we got snowed into our hotel for two days!
South America – Since I was a teenager I have been in love with the history of South America, this magical land will continue to be on every travel list I have until I finally get there! My list of things to see and do is endless but I’ll shorten it to my top 5, none of which need explaining! The Bolivian salt flats, Matchu, Picchu, Easter Island, The Torres del Paine national park and of course the mighty Amazon Rainforest!
Santorini – This Greek Heaven has me longing for whitewashed walls and baking heat, the beauty and hospitality of all of the Greek towns I have stayed is always breathtaking but there is just something about Santorini I am drawn to. I would love to stay at the iconic Kirini Suites
, visit Oia at sunset and see the ancient Thira ruins.
Isle of Barra
– A little closer to home this tiny island in the Outer Hebrides
captures the imagination easily, all I want to do is walk along white beaches, paddle in the freezing ocean, drink whiskey and cuddle up beside roaring log fires, sounds blissful doesn’t it?
Japan – All of it, literally everything. TOP OF THE LIST.
(even though it’s at the bottom)
