There is a reason Vegas is dubbed “Disneyland for Adults”, the phrase anything goes was pretty much created for Vegas.
I have a love hate relationshipn with Vegas. There are hundreds of things I love about the city, the juxtaposition of city & desert, the 8am cocktails, the all night everything, the glamorous women, the insanely good food, the pool parties, but there is a reason they call it Sin City. The seedy undertones weren’t so hidden at points and it made the bright lights seem all that dimmer.
So with that in mind I picked my favourite things to do & see in Vegas whilst avoiding the less sugar coated areas.
The Encore at the Wynn is an amazing hotel, at one end of the strip it’s not flash bang in the middle of the hustle which makes it a little more removed from the madness of Vegas. Saying that it does boast some of the top clubs & pool parties! As it’s one of the newer hotels on the strip it comes without that lingering 80’s tobacco smell and boasts some of the best restaurants on the strip. A top recommendation if you are looking for somewhere luxurious & fun to stay. We got an amazing deal on Booking.com.
The best & most veggie friendly places to eat;
The Terrace – Located in the Wynn this is the perfect breakfast setting, looking out over the pool in the morning whilst it’s still relatively quiet is so relaxing! Make sure you grab to tofu scramble & the Vegan french toast, not at the same time though because the portions are MASSIVE. Rich also recommends the huevos rancheros, it was so good he had it twice!
The Buffet – If you do one thing in true vegas style then go to the breakfast buffet at the Wynn. This place has to be seen to be believed. The had everything on offer from pancakes & steak to sushi & cake! As a vegetarian who doesn’t eat eggs I admit I struggled to find any warm food to eat that wasn’t pancakes, so I just gave in and ate all the cake & fruit. Rich tried everything though and thoroughly recommends it, and when it’s $19 for unlimited mimosas who cares what you eat right?
Secret Slice – This hidden gem at the Cosmopolitan hotel is basically an NYC pizza joint slap bang in the middle of Vegas, it’s not signposted though so you really have to search, which is kinda half the fun right?
Pinches Tacos – You can’t go wrong with authentic Mexican food and this place is choc full of amazing choices. Located in the Container Park in down town it caters for all your taco needs, grab the veggie option, it’s delightful!
Wazuzu – The restaurant is inside the Encore & it boasts a 27 foot crystal dragon as well as some of the best pan asian food I’ve ever eaten! They have a whole vegan section on the menu so it makes ordering a breeze. The avocado & asparagus sushi is a must try and I have it on good authority that the surf & turf sushi is just as tasty.
Jardin – Also in the Encore the Jardin is basically a garden inside & out, you’ll be surrounded by the most amazing floral sculptures whilst you eat. Make sure to try the salad with the vegan ricotta, best “cheese” I’ve ever eaten. Oh and I have to mention the pretzel bread & the cauliflower buffalo bites because I’m still having day dreams about them!
I’ve been drinkin’
Parasol down – Located in the Encore it’s a little bar with a big difference, I recommend sitting outside at night for some interesting (I use that word loosely) light shows. The do a mean gin cocktail too!
Oak & Ivy – This whiskey bar does exactly what it says on the tin. Situated in the DT container park it boasts a massive whiskey list but don’t let that put you off if you aren’t a whiskey lover, they stock all spirits but I thoroughly recommend telling the bartender what you like and let him come up with what he thinks is your perfect cocktail, you wont be disappointed I promise!
Chandelier bar – Located in the Cosmopolitan it’s a must see just for the shear insanity of it. You are drinking cocktails in a massive chandelier! It doesn’t get more Vegas than that.
Jardin – The cocktails here are to die for, and if you are staying in the Encore or the Wynn it’s just a short walk from your room, so when you’ve had one too many martini’s you can stumble off to bed without having to attempt the walk back down the strip.
Shop till you drop
Sephora – All hail the mecca of make up. Located in the Venetian. Need I say more?
The Promenade at the Linq – With a Cupcake ATM, a Photobar & some adorable shops you can’t really go wrong. Stop for a drink beside the fountain or take a ride on the big wheel.
Fashion Show Mall – Located across from the Wynn this mall is full of high street & designer shops. From Kate Spade to Zara you will find everything you are looking for, including some ice cream goodies for when you need a sweet treat. Look out for the “fashion shows”, done in true vegas style they have nothing to do with fashion!
Downtown Container – Vintage & local shopping reigns supreme here, make sure you stop off at oak & ivy for a cocktail on your way out.
