My style goals for 2017

For me fashion has always been about self expression.

Over the years I have made some questionable fashion choices, but I believe your style should change and develop as you do. You aren’t just stuck with one genre, you don’t have to follow trends to be stylish and you don’t have to limit yourself to what your peers are wearing.

Recently I’ve felt like I’ve been in a style rut, playing it safe with my fashion choices and to be honest I’ve been feeling a little beige. After fashion week I felt so inspired but it just disappeared into a social media hole. All I’m seeing is the same ‘instastyle’ re-grammed over and over without any personality, it’s style by numbers, and it’s so uninspiring.

That’s why I’ve decided to set myself some style goals, not to be carved in stone obviously but a guideline to push me to be more creative in my choices!

  • Firstly I need to wear more hats, I have enough of them but I stick to a headscarf like a security blanket, why? Who know’s! My mum’s always said I have a head for hats, well it’s time to use it!
  • Don’t be afraid of colour, more specifically anything that’s bright or clashing. I feel like I stick to a safe palette of pastels, time to push out of my comfort zone and buy bold!
  • Get to the charity shop more often, this goes for donating as well as shopping! I’ve turned into a bit of a hoarder recently and a regular clear out will help me see the gems in my wardrobe.
  • Take RISKS! I’ll often put on an outfit and then restyle it because I’m not 100% sure, time to start wearing first choices, have fun with fashion again and stop caring so much what other people thing of my style.

Luckily there are also plenty of inspiring social media accounts out there who constantly push the style boundaries, who are confident in their personality and let it shine through in their bold fashion choices. Here are my current go to accounts for when I’m feeling like I’m stuck in a rut.

Michelle from Kingdom of Style is a constant inspiration, she’s always one of the reasons I got into blogging in the first place!

Sheri happens to be one of my BFF’s but she’s also a constant source of fashion fun & advice!

Daisy’s instagram is one I’ve stalked constantly, her no fucks stance on fashion is 100% what everyone needs in their life.

Miranda has one of those instagram feeds that everyone can’t help but fall in love with.

I’m always in love with Amy’s colourful choices! She incorporates vintage styling into almost ever outfit and it’s styling at it’s best.

Forever Chic Susie is always pushing boundaries.

Love your style goals! I’ve been thinking about my own personal style for the last few months, and I, too, really want to take more risks and wear more colour! If you look great in hats (which you do!) you should totally wear more of them!

I’ve got the same top from Zara. I love it! I love it the first time I saw it so I ordered it online. When I got it on my hands and tries it -it just dawned me- how should I style or carry this one. I’ve always has a good feeling of anything I bought online the first time I tried it on, but this top is something else… I don’t want to return it, that would be very clear, I just need to have the “umph” to wear it.
