Dreaming of vintage silhouettes

When you think Vintage you’d be forgiven for going instantly to the Marilyn Monroe era. The 50’s silhouette was iconic and I’m definitely not here to argue that. But are we overlooking other key trends by getting bogged down in full skirts & petticoats?

The cigarette pants have been around since the 50’s, made acceptable for the mainstream by Mary Tyler Moore when she wore them for a TV interview but they never really came into their own until the likes of Audrey Hepburn & Twiggy in the 60’s. That slim fitting leg with a high waist is incredibly flattering and goes with everything!

Whenever I spot a vintage pair I always prey they will fit, but when I see a vintage replica I buy them straight away, there are so many amazing companies that sell “modern day Vintage” and so many high street brands that are bringing out archived pieces that it’s relatively easy to get your hands on some timeless pieces without having to trawl through your local vintage shops.

I managed to grab these Alexa Chung for M&S babies in the sale for an amazing £7! My only regret? Not buying two pairs.

So next time you are vintage shopping with a friend remember it’s not only about those full skirts & sequins, pick up something that will stand the test of time in your wardrobe.
